Coke Cutter

It is not just a Double Toothed Roll Crushers. Lot of special design features are essential while designing a coke cutter. This coke cutter, as name suggests cuts the coke & it does not crush it by pressing. There is very predominant shearing action on the incoming coke pieces.

Therefore, tooth configuration is very important, depending upon the feed size & product size.

Normally, the size of coke coming out of coke ovens is -300, -250, -200, etc., and this size of coke is not suitable for Blast Furnace Operation. Blast furnace needs "SIZED-COKE" for its satisfactory operation. Depending upon the design features of Blast Furnace, size of coke is selected. It ranges between 80 to 40. Coke Cutter has to cut the coke in such a manner, that almost all the cut pieces, should be near to upper limit & fines i.e. say -10 should be less than 15%. Also, particles of size say 15, 20, etc., also should be minimum. Coke cutter diameter therefore varies between 650 dia to 800 dia. Bigger diameters are not required.

WEAR-RESISTANT-CUTTING RINGS

As the coke is very very abrasive material cutting rings of coke cutters, have to have special alloy steel, KMD (Chrome-moly-steel) hardened to 55-60 RC. MN.STEEL is not suitable for Coke Cutter. As there is no pounding action, MN.STEEL will wear before getting work hardened

LOW SURFACE SPEED (BELOW 3M/SEC.)

In order to control the percentage of fines (-10mm) coke cutter should be run as slow as possible, i.e. It's surface speed, should be below 3M/SEC preferably around 2M/SEC. This low speed also helps in keeping the wear on the rings to minimum.

RARIFICATION IN CRUSHING ZONE

In order to avoid flooding of incoming coke into crushing zone, width of coke cutter selected should be more by 20% to 30%, than standard toothed roll crusher.

BULK DENSITY (0.5 T/M3)

It should be remembered that bulk density of coke is 0.5T/M3. It Is quite low when compared with other materials like

COAL = 0.8 T/M3
BASALT = 1.6T/M3
IRON ORE = 2.2 T/M3

Therefore it is obvious that for the same T.P.H Capacity, Coke Cutter has to handle, very high volumes, therefore cutter width selected should be sufficient.

Application :

Toothed Double Roll Crushers are used for crushing the friable and brittle materials like Coal, Coke, Sinter (hot and cold), Clay, Earth, Slag, Chalk, Soft Limestone etc.

Due to cutting action of the teeth, crushing of material takes place mostly due to shear and not by pressing. Therefore fines generation is bare minimum.

Description :

Crushing takes place due to two rolls running in to each other and crushing the material caught in the valley of the rolls. One roll is fixed, while other one is adjustable & spring mounted, permising of uncrushable to pass through.

Crushing Rolls :

Toothed rings are mounted on the heavy fabricated hub and the rings are kept in position by holding bolts. These rings are made of wear-resistant steel, like 1 4% Mn Steel, K.M.D. or any other hardened Steel depending upon the application.

Drive :

Surface speed of rolls is kept between 3m-5m/sec and therefore upto 800 dia roll crushers are driven, directly by V-belts. But above 800 dia roll crushers, are provided with gear box/gear motor to keep the surface speed between specified limits of 3 M/ Sec to 5 M/Sec.

Hosting :

Housing is divided in 3 parts and is made of welded construction
1. Heavy Duty Chassis with Legs.
2. Yoke for Mounting floating adjustable roll.
3. Upper housing to keep the toothed roll crusher enclosed.

Sap Adjustment :

The design of the ECOMAN's Gap-Adjustment system is such, that during running condition gap can be adjusted and also the spring force. There are two spindles located one inside the other in such a way, that inner spindle tightens or lessens the springs, while outer one changes the position of the roll. Attached sketch is self-explanatory.
